Council minutes

St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church
Arlington, Massachusetts

9 April 2012

Council Members Present: Katie Corneilson, Pastor Ross Goodman, Maile Hedlund, Mark Olson, Dana Ramish, Brian Sniffen, George Wilson.

Absent: Alison Roberts, Heather Sheridan, Wendy Stack, Chris Trost.

Gathering

A quorum was gathered and we came together in God’s name at 7:45pm. A candle was lit to remind us that Christ is present with us as we meet.

Agenda

The agenda was accepted.

Devotions

Marc Olson leads a devotion from Footsteps of the Fisherman and John 21. Dana Ramish volunteers for next month.

Word

Minutes

The minutes of March were accepted as amended.

Financial reports

We’re running under budget, principally because Snow Removal and Gas expenses have been lower than expected. We shouldn’t spend these yet, as who knows what next Winter will bring.

New business

No motions or new business.

Personnel committee update

The position of Director of Youth & Family Ministry has been posted. It’s on Craigslist and with the Synod. Clancy put together an ad for a local church publication. The job description has been revised and perhaps split: a “Sunday Morning Monitor” to provide organization, find substitute teachers, and prepare the Godly Play Feast, freeing the Director of Youth & Family Ministry to “engage in relational ministry.”

The Sexton will also be leaving this summer, as he’s marrying and moving to Dakota.

Reports

Pastor Goodman reports that the building set a record for occupancy this weekend, with three congregations holding multiple services each. The Lutheran congregation had 260 people! This is however his first ever Council meeting the day after Easter, so he’s still slightly recovering.

Daniel Eisenberg will be here as our next Intern in late summer.

Meal

Pastor Goodman gathers us in prayer and leads communion at 8:11pm.

Respectfully submitted, Brian Sniffen
